LYNKAGE: Welcome D Angel, Could you tell us a little about yourself and how you got started in the music industry?
D’Angel:  Well, I was born and raised in Spanish Town, I grew up with 6 sisters including myself and one brother, I love to laugh, make others laugh and I am a very family oriented girl. I’m kind at heart, honest and caring. I was introduced to the music business in 2001, in a group called the L.O.Y Crew. However, it was short lived because every one wanted different things, at the time modeling was my passion so I continued to rock the runways. I eventually came back to music in 2004 because it is an inborn talent so I could not escape it. I got my break through with my hit single ‘Living uptown’ aka Down Town Girl.

LYNKAGE: What are some of the challenges you’ve faced as a female artiste?
D’Angel:  A lot!!! Just to name a few, recording on a rhythm and your song is not played; it’s ten times as hard to breakthrough as a female artiste in a male dominant business, and less unity amongst female artiste

LYNKAGE: What is your most memorable moment as a deejay?
D’Angel:  I was actually at the Asylum night club, not intending to perform, but to my surprise I just heard a massive crowd shouting “We want D’Angel”.  So I went and did my thing for the screaming fans. That to me was my most memorable moment because it still stands out in my mind.

LYNKAGE: Where else have you performed outside of Jamaica?
D’Angel:  I’ve been to Los Angeles, England, Belize, Grand Cayman, New York, Guyana, Canada, Boston, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Atlanta Georgia, Baltimore, and Washington DC.

LYNKAGE: What are some of the not so good moments as an entertainer?
D’Angel:  (laugh) I actually got booed, but I understood because It was not for my performance or talent, but rather for some personal accusations that I was not guilty of , which definitely makes me a stronger person, besides that just day to day hurdles and challenges in order to stay focused.

LYNKAGE: What is that one thing that gets on your nerves?
D’Angel:  Disloyalty….. Especially people that are fake
LYNKAGE: What Makes your Day?
D’Angel:  Just seeing my son Marco-Dean smile!!!

LYNKAGE: What do you do in your free time?
D’Angel:  Visit my family and spend time with my son

LYNKAGE: What is it like being you?
D’Angel:  I am Fearless, resilient and a strong believer in God. That’s what keeps me grounded

LYNKAGE: Do you write your own songs?
D’Angel:  Not all, but everything that I sing, is mostly my idea and I have to be able to relate to it as well, however music comes through what you see on day to day basis and people’s way of life.

LYNKAGE: What inspires you to your songs?
D’Angel:  Way of life, my son and of course my biggest inspiration is God.

LYNKAGE: If you are the last person on earth who should the last man be?
D’Angel:  Marco –Dean, who else???

LYNKAGE: Who is your favorite artiste?
D’Angel:  Any one who contributes positively to the music industry.

LYNKAGE: What has been happening with you?
D’Angel:  (She sighs) A lot. Let me start, hopefully I don’t leave out anything. I am the ambassador for G-Force, a natural roots wine manufactured by Wray and Nephew, I have a column in the X-News called ‘Dear D’Angel’ sponsored by G-Force, I’m also the proud owner of Angel’s Boutique. As it relates to my music career, it’s a blessing because I’m on the major shows (if not all) in Jamaica and I’m definitely getting recognition on the international scene. My music is taking the airwaves locally and moderately overseas by storm. Thanks to the radio disc jockeys and the producers who made this possible and all those who have played a D’Angel song.

LYNKAGE: Who are some of the people you have collaborated with, and name some of which you would like to work with?
D’Angel:  Locally, I ‘ve worked with Tanya Stephens, Vybz Kartel, Beenie Man, Prodigal Son, Kevin Little, Sean Kingston and DJ Unk, Wayne Wonder, Jah Mason, Macka Diamond, Wasp, Ras Ghandi and songstress Aisha Davis. I would like to work with anyone who has contributed positively to dancehall and internationally, Beyonce because I admire her talent and her strength.

LYNKAGE: What is your view on the broadcasting commission’s decision to ban certain songs?
D’Angel:  As a mother I honestly support the cleaning up of songs on the airwaves, because music is word sound power and it has influence amongst the youths, even though the banned doesn’t affect me as so, it forces us as artiste to be more creative.

LYNKAGE: Where do you see yourself the next five to ten years?
D’Angel:  Definitely going Platinum on my album, my book should be completed by then, having my own talk show and of course acting in the Big Film Industry and not to mention all kinds of merchandising and endorsements that comes with it.
