LYNKAGE: Hi Bugle what’s going on?
BUGLE: Mi deh yah a cover the world like Google.
LYNKAGE: How long have you been doing music?
BUGLE: For my whole life, I stopped doing music for a year just to do fashion design, but I only did that because I came under pressure from one of my parents but fashion is a thing that I love too so I never regret it either.
LYNKAGE: What was last year like for you?
BUGLE: Last year was great I accomplished a lot of things, I went to a lot of places like Italy, Japan, Canada and England to name a few.
LYNKAGE: What are you working on right now?
BUGLE: Well, Just music, I’m always in the studio writing songs, building rhythms and voicing. Music is my life I live it, like breakfast lunch and dinner.
LYNKAGE: Well I think it is not all work for you, so how does Bugle play?
BUGLE: uumm? Music. I wake up in the morning, go to the fitness center for an hour, go back home and write music, so my life is just straight music.
LYNKAGE: So what do you like the most about being an entertainer?
BUGLE: People get to know what you are thinking about, more in-depth. It’s a great feeling to know that you can stay home and write some songs that you see as being simple, and when you put them on a record and the rest of the world hear it you get a very good response, and my music change a lot of people life, because I get that from them on a day to day basis, and my music really teach the people.
LYNKAGE: Ok so if not music, then…
BUGLE: Music. (Laugh)
LYNKAGE: What is your most memorable experience so far?
BUGLE: It was when I was just about to make my break, that was really exciting and is still exciting to know that I’m doing my songs and the whole world love it and that really help you to establish yourself as an artiste. Another one of my most memorable moments was when I just did the “Exercise” song and I did it on a dub plate for Fire Links and him play it in a clash and kill the other sounds with it.
LYNKAGE: What are some of the lessons you’ve learned since being in the business?
BUGLE: Good music cannot die, it will last a lifetime. You might put out a good song and within a month or two months it doesn’t get the break that you expect, but when its does, it stays forever.
LYNKAGE: So what is the reception like overseas?
BUGLE: The reception is great, a great feeling when you come out of Jamaica and you are anywhere else in the world and you perform and people know your songs line to line and people go crazy and everybody wants a picture, and everybody wants a hug it’s just a great feeling.
LYNKAGE: You had mentioned earlier that you were under some pressure by one of your parents well how do they feel about your career now?
BUGLE: Well my family is happy, like super happy. My mother is like my biggest fan from ever since but it was my father that wanted me to do the fashion thing. My mother just always support me like whatever I want to do I just do it as long as I believe in myself and it’s not anything negative. My mother supports me a hundred and ten percent.
LYNKAGE: What does your father have to say about it now?
BUGLE: My father is happy, him realize that whatever I wanted to do, he should have just give me the chance to just do it. But as I said I did not regret doing the fashion design it’s just that I don’t like being at one place for too long.

LYNKAGE:Where did Bugle grow up?
BUGLE: Well I was born in Portland, I went to school there and before school done with me, I was done with school
LYNKAGE: What does your community thinks about your career?
BUGLE: Basically I am the king over there, they love me like I can’t do nothing wrong, but I’m still grounded and I don’t let it get to me, still keep it musical and show love to everyone just the same, and always stay true to my real friends and the people that supports me from ever since.
LYNKAGE: So tell me a little more about your life growing up?
BUGLE: Growing up I was influenced by one of my brothers he was always playing cassettes with dance, and people like Papa San and Stichie and I always listen to them and just by listening I was always saying this sounds exciting and fun, and it sounds like something that I would like to grow up doing, so it’s a thing where I started to flip their songs to my songs; like use their flow but with my lyrics. Music has always been my life, I’ve been on tour with Elephant man for years, I’ve written songs for him as well, and for Bounty Killer I’ve payed my dues like a hundred times before I got the break.
LYNKAGE: I see you’ve done some collaborations with some of Jamaica's finest like: Tarrus Riley, who would you like to work with in the future?
BUGLE: Locally, as long as you have the talent and you are a good artiste I don’t have a problem working with you. Internationally, I would love to do a song with Lauren Hill and Pharell, people like those. I look up to those people because you can see that they are really into music and music is into them.
LYNKAGE: What did you do different last year that made people gravitate to your music?
BUGLE: The type of music and me just being myself, and every song that I sing people can relate to it
LYNKAGE: What is your favorite song that you have recorded?
BUGLE: That would have to be “Exercise” because that is the song that make the world know who is Bugle and what Bugle is all about.
LYNKAGE: What do you hope to achieve in the next five years?
BUGLE: To always be on the forefront and always be in the people mind and sight.
LYNKAGE: What’s your motivation?
BUGLE: Everything is my motivation, doing this interview is a motivation to me because you might say one word and that one word brings inspiration.
LYNKAGE: Tell us a little more about how you got your big break.
BUGLE: Well I’ve been around every Producer, Artiste, Selector, Disk Jock in the industry and I’ve always been in the streets like the white line. What happen is one day I was driving with this girl to consumer plaza which is across the road from weekendz, and we were listening to something on the radio and Serani was there and Serani wanted to hear what we were listening to, and the girl say something and Serani ask her if she can sing, and she said yes and Serani tell her say he is actually looking for new artistes and she should bring a demo to him and we both link up with Serani the following day and while Serani was listening to the demo he said he would like to do some work with me too but I should bring my idea to him, so the following day I brought the exercise song to him and he build the rhythm and I voiced on it, and then we did the video for it and put out the song and within four weeks it became like the biggest song in Jamaica.
LYNKAGE: What are the three things Bugle cannot live without?
BUGLE: Music, Food and a Woman. |
